Many of the original prospectors who settled the area shortly thereafter eventually redirected their efforts into agriculture as the gold supply diminished, and were the ones who initially engineered waterways adjoining the Snake River to produce one of the richest agricultural regions in the country, where most of Idaho’s potatoes now are grown.
